Daventry: Plans submitted for 129 affordable homes

Developer Spitfire Homes says it will deliver extra affordable homes if the plans are approved

Plans have been submitted to build 129 affordable homes on the edge of a town.

The development in Daventry, Northamptonshire, was first given approval in 2021 and will include a new primary school and community centre.

The site is located to the south-west of the town, between the A425 and A45.

A total of 1,100 houses have already been approved for the Malabar estate, however reserved matters plans need to be approved before the applicant, Spitfire Homes, can start construction.

The affordable homes will comprise of nine one-bed apartments, 47 two-bed homes and 73 three-bed homes.

The developer said that the extra 100 affordable homes will be an additional provision and will not count towards the development's overall affordability commitments.

Car parking will be provided for the homes as on-plot driveway space or as allocated parking in shared courts. Electric vehicle charging points will be also available at the end of parking bays.

In its planning statement, the developer said: "The proposal creates a high quality, legible development which forms a pleasant, interesting and enjoyable place to live. Sustainability underpins the design approach in all the decisions made and consulted on.

"The final scheme has evolved over recent months and has benefitted considerably from the input of various parties."

Conservative-controlled West Northamptonshire Council is set to decide whether to approve the plans by mid-July.

Comments on the application, external from interested parties are due in June.
