Go-ahead for £60m Nottingham railway station revamp

A £60m revamp of Nottingham's railway station has been approved by the government.
A new concourse, extra shops and a 950-space car park will be created at the station, which is used by seven million passengers a year.
The site's Grade II-listed buildings will also be restored and highways improvements will be carried out on Queen's Road.
Work will begin in July 2012 and is due to be completed by late-2014.
Transport minister Norman Baker said: "Not only will passengers find the station more pleasant to use, the redevelopment will enhance accessibility and help kick start regeneration in the area, bringing a welcome boost to the local economy."
As part of the project, the city council said brownfield land within the station site would be redeveloped as mixed-use, generating approximately 900 jobs.
Towards the end of the station works, Network Rail will complete a full resignalling in the station.
Platform four will also be redesigned to increase the number of trains which can call at Nottingham.
