Officers said they feared Kisiel had been actively collecting eggs for years

A prolific Nottinghamshire egg collector has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Aaron Kisiel, 39, from Hanley Avenue, Bramcote, had earlier been convicted of possessing items capable of being used to take and possess wild birds' eggs.

Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard he had admitted possessing 28 wild birds' eggs after the RSPB searched his home.

Kisiel was sentenced to 84 days in jail, suspended for 12 months, and also banned from driving for 10 months.

He has also been ordered to do a 150 hours' unpaid work.

£1,000 reward

Kisiel's trial heard he had been spotted several times near nests in the Peak District.

The RSPB said the driving ban was unique and was designed to stop him travelling to nesting sites.

Investigators said they believed they had only seen a fraction of the eggs Kisiel had taken and have offered a £1,000 reward for information about other collections.

Tim Sexton from the Attenborough Nature Reserve said: "It is extremely frustrating when we manage sites like this to try to preserve and protect sites like this for wildlife.

"Someone such as this can come along and destroy entire populations of rare birds through their obsession for egg collecting."
