Meeting considers Nottinghamshire NHS walk-in centres

A public meeting is to be held by NHS bosses to discuss the future of two walk-in centres in Nottinghamshire.

NHS Nottinghamshire County is considering moving the stand-alone centres at Ashfield Health Village and Stapleford Care Centre.

The two centres see 37,000 patients a year at a cost of £1.33m

A consultation is also looking at other options including expanding the centres or closing them. The meeting will take place on Wednesday.

Preferred option

The trust said almost 10,000 consultation documents had been distributed across the county.

An NHS spokesman said a preferred option to move the centres to accident and emergency units had been chosen by local health professionals including GPs and hospital consultants.

Matt Youdale, from NHS Nottinghamshire County, said: "We are really keen to hear people's views about the options we're proposing at Wednesday's meeting.

"This review is being led by senior clinicians, doctors and nurses. To them, the option to integrate the services into a single front door at A&E is the most acceptable, safest, highest quality and best value.

"However - NHS Nottinghamshire County does not yet have a formal view on what should happen.

"No decisions will be made until after we have heard the views of local people. That is why the consultation is important."
