Attenborough Nature Centre, near Nottingham, welcomed its 20,000th school pupil on Tuesday.

The centre, within a 145-hectare nature reserve, was designed to inspire pupils to protect wildlife.

To commemorate the 20,000th visitor, a class from Bramcote Hills Primary School received membership of the centre's Wildlife Watch scheme.

The centre has built close links with the school since it opened in 2005.

Education manager Karen Bennett said: "We do things outdoors as much as possible. It's all about inspiring them to protect our wonderful wildlife and environment."
