Charity bin thieves caught on camera in Nottingham

Two men have been caught on camera stealing clothes from a charity bin in Nottingham city centre.

A resident filmed the men raiding the bin in the Boston Street car park at 1135 BST on Tuesday.

One man used a wooden pallet to climb into the bin and passed its contents to a friend. They then piled the donations into a green bin and wheeled it away.

Nottinghamshire Police have appealed to anyone who knows the men in the video footage to contact them.

'Feet sticking out'

The theft was filmed by student Gareth Ford from his flat window after he saw the pair acting suspiciously.

"I was doing university work in my bedroom when I saw two feet sticking out of the bin. My instinct was to grab my camera.

"It was such an unusual sight. I never thought I'd see people go so low," said the 23-year-old.

The donation bin, owned by charity Ragtext UK, contained clothing that would have been sent to developing countries to be worn again.

Managing director Gerald Cemmell said: "I was appalled to see the theft occurring so blatantly.

"It is very good to see the vigilance of the public recording events like this and helping eradicate the problem."

Nottinghamshire Police said thefts from clothing banks were not common.
