Major signalling problems at Nottingham disrupted train services to and from the city on Tuesday.

Many services from the station were cancelled from late afternoon and some journeys running through the area were delayed by up to 90 minutes.

East Midlands Trains put on replacement buses for affected passengers.

Network Rail said engineers restored power and signals shortly before 2100 BST but said services would take some time to return to normal.

The cause of the power failure has not yet been confirmed.

Buses replaced trains between Nottingham and Alfreton, Derby, East Midlands Parkway and Lincoln.

Trains between Nottingham and Liverpool Lime Street were cancelled.

Services run by CrossCountry, East Midlands Trains and Northern Rail were all affected.
