Wes Morgan celebrated his 400th appearance for Nottingham Forest on Saturday

A man from the US has become a cult figure for Nottingham Forest fans because he shares a player's nickname.

Internet developer Wes Hall and defender Wes Morgan are both known as Big Wes.

Mr Hall, who uses @BigWes on Twitter, had messages congratulating him on his 400th appearance for the club.

Despite the error, the Atlanta man said his followers have tripled and is set to receive a replica shirt from the fans.

Mr Hall said he thanked fans "for the love" but explained they had got him mixed up with someone else.

'Wonderful fans'

"We had a couple of exchanges and I asked to be an honorary Forest fan," he told the BBC.

"This story is all about how wonderful these fans are, I'm just a by-product of the whole thing.

"I was just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time."

A Nottingham Forest spokesman said: "We were fascinated to hear Big Wes' story.

"It's great to know we've gained a new follower in Atlanta and look forward to one day welcoming him to The City Ground."

Mr Hall said he hoped to get to see a Forest game at the City Ground in the near future.
