Pothole cash for university researchers in Nottingham

Researchers from Nottingham's two universities have been given money to look into the performance of road repairs.

Potholes, which are created when water freezes and expands in cracks in the road, cost councils millions of pounds.

The six-month project will evaluate current techniques and create guidance to make future repairs more reliable.

A pavement section will be constructed and tested under different conditions, as part of the study.

The funding, issued to Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham, has come from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Research and Development Enabling Fund.
