The first tram track foundations have begun to be laid as part of an 11 mile (17.5km) extension to Nottingham's tram network.

The £570m project includes the construction of two new lines which will serve Wilford, Clifton, Beeston and Chilwell.

The work started on Friday at a new park and ride site being built near the Bardills Island on the A52.

Services on the new routes are expected to be running by late 2014.
