Nottingham nurse attacked and robbed on way home from work

A nurse was pushed off her bike, kicked and robbed as she cycled home from work.

The 31-year-old, who suffered bruising and grazed knees, said she feared one of her three male attackers might have had a gun.

One robber took her mobile phone and another took her rucksack.

Police said it happened in the Beechdale area of Nottingham at about 23:30 GMT on Monday, on Radford Bridge Road.

The nurse, who lives in Beechdale and does not want to be named, said she lost control of her bike and "skidded along the ground" after one of the men ran off the pavement and pushed her.

She said: "One of them then started to kick me and started shouting 'Give me your money, give me your bag', and taking my bag and then they started to frisk me for my phone.

"I wasn't sure what they were going to do or if they had any other intentions at all or not."

'Gun' fear

She added: "When I turned around one of the men looked like he had a gun wrapped in something.

"That's what I think his intention was; for me to think that's what it was, although I can't be sure it was [a gun]."

The accident and emergency nurse had finished a 12 and a half hour shift at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre when the attack happened, near the Crown Island.

The rucksack contained her uniform, about £1.27 in change and a tin of soup.

"I had already told them I hadn't got anything on me but they still just proceeded to carry on with it," she said.

"It's a bit pathetic that people want to put you through things like that for absolutely nothing."

A man came and helped her shortly afterwards.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers want to speak to anyone who has information about the incident; particularly a white man on a bicycle who passed the offenders in Radford Bridge Road just before the robbery.

Detective Constable Mike Ebbins said: "It would appear that the offenders targeted the victim for her mobile phone; however they were not satisfied with just the phone and were intent on using violence against their unsuspecting victim to get her bag as well.

"She is a nurse and had just finished a long shift at the hospital and this is the last thing she was expecting on her way home.

"She was injured and incredibly shaken by the incident and I would urge anyone who has information to please contact police and tell us what you know."

Police said one of the offenders was black, in his late teens or early 20s, and wore dark clothing and a hooded top.

The other two offenders were white, in their late teens or early 20s, and also wore dark clothing.
