Nottingham tram work to stop for Christmas
- Published
Work to extend Nottingham's tram network is to stop over the Christmas period to allow easier access for shoppers.
The work is part of a £570m project to extend the network to Chilwell and Clifton and double the capacity of the current tram system.
Lane restrictions along University Boulevard will be lifted on 1 December until the new year.
Work will also stop in Queen's Road and Meadow Lane a week later.
'More significant'
Jane Urquhart, from the city council, said: "We have made sure that as many of the roadworks as we can are taken off the highway for the Christmas period.
"It's something we always do - but it's more significant this year because of the tram works."
Responding to criticism from local residents and businesses about the works, she added: "When you are building something on this scale there will always be disruption.
"But in the long term transport in and out of Nottingham will be easier."
