Newark Northgate railway worker seriously injured by train

A railway worker was seriously injured when he was hit by a train in Nottinghamshire.

The man, a member of Network Rail's track team, was working at Newark Northgate Station when he was struck at about 11:30 GMT.

An Air Ambulance spokesman said the 49-year-old was airlifted to Queen's Medical Centre with potential head, facial, chest and pelvic injuries.

There was disruption on the network while investigations took place.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Officers are currently working to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident, which is being treated as non suspicious."
