Mansfield garden bodies murder accused deny charges

A woman and her husband have denied shooting her parents whose buried remains were found in a garden more than 15 years after they went missing.

Susan Edwards, 55, and Christopher Edwards, 57, each entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of murder, at Nottingham Crown Court.

They are accused of murdering William and Patricia Wycherley in Nottinghamshire, in May 1998.

The Wycherleys disappeared from their home in Forest Town, Mansfield.

'Tip off'

Police launched a murder investigation after two sets of human remains were recovered from the garden of their home in Blenheim Close, Forest Town, last October.

The court heard that analysis of the remains showed they had sustained gunshot wounds

Nottinghamshire Police said DNA testing had formally identified the remains - which were discovered after a tip off - as those of Mr and Mrs Wycherley, who would now be 100 and 79 respectively.

The accused, of no fixed address, were arrested at St Pancras International station in London on 30 October.

They were remanded in custody and are next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 21 March.

A trial date was tentatively set for 2 June.
