Kelham Hall sale confirmed by Newark council

The council says the move will save about £430,000 a year in running costs

A Nottinghamshire council has sold its Grade I listed headquarters and earmarked a site to move to, it has been confirmed.

Newark and Sherwood District Council decided to sell Victorian Kelham Hall as its running costs were too high.

Officials have now accepted an offer on the building and have selected a site next to Castle Station in Newark for the new base.

Neither the price nor the buyers have yet been revealed.

The council said Kelham Hall, built in the 1860s, was too expensive and far larger than it needed.

While no sale price for the hall has been confirmed, the report says one funding option for the new building would be matching the £3m from the hall with £3m of other investment.

The council is due to discuss the report on 3 July.
