Cyclist Louise Wright died when she was struck by Adam Haywood's lorry

A cyclist was killed when she was dragged under a lorry which failed to indicate, Derby Crown Court has heard.

Adam Haywood, 31, of from Whitwell, Derbyshire, denies causing 29-year-old Louise Wright's death by careless driving in Nottingham on 3 July 2014.

A jury was told Ms Wright was crossing the junction of Lower Parliament Street and Pennyfoot Street when she died.

She suffered "catastrophic" injuries as a result of the crash, the court was told.

The jury was shown CCTV of the crash in which Ms Wright moved forward after waiting at a set of lights. Mr Haywood's lorry then turned left.

The prosecution alleges Mr Haywood did not indicate and he struck the bicycle's rear wheel.

She was dragged under the lorry and it ran over her.

The prosecution told the court that Mr Haywood "failed to indicate and failed to observe her in his mirrors when they were stationary at the lights".

"There was no blind spot. She was there to be seen and he didn't see her," prosecutor Martin Hurst said.

He also failed to stop soon enough to save her, Mr Hurst added.

The case continues.
