Man shot in leg in Kirkby-in-Ashfield attack, police say

A 30-year-old man was shot in the leg in Southwell Close, Kirkby-in-Ashfield on Monday evening

A man was shot in the thigh in an attack in a street in Nottinghamshire, police said.

The 30-year-old man was taken to hospital after he was hurt in Southwell Close, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, on Monday evening.

Police believe two men wearing dark-coloured clothing shot the man before fleeing the scene.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and grievous bodily harm.

The victim's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-altering.

This latest incident follows a suspected shooting in the St Ann's area of Nottingham in July and three shootings in nearby Radford and Old Basford in June.

Det Ch Insp Kevin Broadhead, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We deployed a significant amount of resources, including armed officers and the police helicopter, to carry out a search in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and I'm pleased that we now have one suspect in custody.

"Our main priority is your safety and I hope that the arrest will give the local community some reassurance."

He added that extra officers will remain in the area while inquiries continue.

"We will not tolerate guns on the streets on Nottinghamshire and I'd urge you to let us know anything you have seen or heard."
