Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died when he was hit by a car at a tram park and ride.

The man was struck at Forest Park and Ride in Forest Fields, Nottingham, at about 00:30 BST on Tuesday.

He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead. The park and ride was closed for investigations before reopening at about 16:00 BST.

The arrested men, aged 18, 23 and 25, remain in police custody.

Trams were unaffected by the park and ride's closure.

James Francis, a student who lives across the road from where it happened, said he witnessed the man being hit.

He said he heard "a lot of commotion" and a "louder than normal" car engine.

"I was in a complete state of shock," the 19-year-old said.

"I ran to the scene to see a man lying on the ground with his partner distraught."

He said the man was unconscious and some people at the scene were "screaming 'call an ambulance' and 'call the police'".

"The partner was distraught and could not stand still. She was screaming his name and jumping up and down.

"The paramedics were trying to resuscitate him at the scene," he said.
