Part of the M1 motorway is expected to be closed for several hours after a "serious" crash that involved two vans and a lorry in Nottinghamshire.
The collision happened on the southbound carriageway between junctions 26 and 25 at about 02:45 GMT on Thursday, police said.
Emergency services are at the scene. No details of injuries have been released.
National Highways urged drivers to follow diversions and allow extra time for their journeys.
Ch Insp Ashley Thornton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We are urging drivers to try and plan an alternate route and avoid the area whilst we continue to work and resolve this incident.
"The road is expected to remain closed for some time and we would like to thank motorists for their patience."
The Derbyshire roads policing unit said on Twitter there was congestion around junction 28, external of the M1, leading to the A38, the A52 and the A61, as a result of the collision.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is asked to contact police.
