Worksop: Two arrests after large fire at former nursing home
- Published
Two men have been arrested following a large fire at a former nursing home in Nottinghamshire.
Emergency services attended Abbeymoor Nursing Home, in Sherwood Road, Worksop, at about 04:20 GMT on Sunday.
At its height, six fire engines tackled the blaze at the derelict building with police closing nearby roads.
Nottinghamshire Police said the suspects, aged 27 and 33, had been detained on suspicion of arson after being treated in hospital.
The 27-year-old suffered injuries which are believed to be potentially life-threatening, the force added.
'Extensive fire damage'
An aerial ladder platform and water bowser were also used to bring the fire under control.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were likely to remain at the scene for some time and urged people to avoid the area and keep doors and windows closed.
A joint police and fire investigation into the cause is due to take place on Monday.
Det Insp Simon Harrison said: "Our inquiries are at a very early stage and a full investigation into the cause of the fire will now take place.
"We would ask anyone who saw what happened, or has any further information, to contact us immediately.
"Due to extensive fire damage, emergency services are still working on the building to make it safe, however a detailed search cannot take place."
He urged anyone who was concerned for anyone unaccounted for to contact the police.
