Resident Nicola Drage described the sinkhole in Kilton Road as being 6ft (1.8m) deep

A cordon is in place on a Nottinghamshire road after a sinkhole appeared, estimated by a resident to be about 6ft (1.8m) deep.

Nicola Drage said she saw work being done to drains outside her house in Kilton Road, Worksop, before the hole opened on Thursday.

Nottinghamshire County Council said it had put barriers in place and asked Severn Trent Water to investigate.

The company confirmed it had been made aware and was investigating.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: "We're sorry for any disruption caused by our work investigating a potential issue with the sewer network on Kilton Road.

"We were first notified on Thursday and crews have been out to site to carry out an initial investigation.

"They will be returning as further investigations are needed to confirm if there is an issue with the sewer, and if so, what repairs are needed."

Severn Trent has not said when the road will be back to normal, but said this would be "as soon as possible".
