The GMB said its staff did dangerous work for minimum wage

Recycling centre staff in Nottinghamshire have ended three weeks of strike action after accepting a new pay deal.

The GMB union said members would now resume work after the action caused disruption for an estimated 250,000 households.

Workers voted to accept a one-off pay boost with Veolia also promising to confront issues with workplace culture.

The company said it was pleased the strike action had been called off.

The walk-out involved staff at Mansfield's Materials Recycling Facility, Ashfield's Welshcroft Close site and Bassetlaw's Claylands Avenue site.

GMB organiser Mick Coppin said: "Our members do difficult and dangerous work for the minimum wage.

"They're key to keeping Nottinghamshire's waste services moving but for too long they've been overlooked and undervalued.

"They've delivered this pay win by standing together and showing determination in the face of massive pressure from Veolia.

A Veolia spokesperson said: "We have reached an agreement recognising the hard work of our teams through early engagement regarding 2024 pay and we are pleased that strike action has been called off."
