Police officers winged their way to a motorway to save a stricken swan.

Nottinghamshire Police said it received numerous calls about a possibly injured bird on the M1 on Thursday.

They located the swan near the A610 slip road but attempts to coax it to take flight failed.

Instead, they put the confused bird in the back of their patrol car and returned it to Attenborough Nature Reserve.

In a Facebook post, the force wrote: "Thankfully for one of our PCSOs it wasn't his first rodeo in rescuing a swan."

They added the swan was "now back to living its best life".
