A man has died and a woman has been taken to hospital after a fire in Nottingham.

Emergency services were called to Watcombe Circus, Carrington, at about 19:25 GMT on Friday.

Two people were brought out of a second floor flat but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A joint investigation between the police and fire service has been started.

Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service group manager, Tom Archer, said: "This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this sad time.

"We will continue to work closely with our police colleagues now to fully understand the cause and circumstances surrounding this fire."
