A man has been charged with the murder of another man who was found dead at his home in Nottinghamshire.

Police went to Northfields Close, in Sutton-in-Ashfield, at 00:55 GMT on Friday after reports a male had been assaulted.

A 76-year-old man - who has not yet been formally identified - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Peter McGarry, 53, from Alexandra Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, was charged with murder on Sunday night.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court later.

Det Insp Melanie Crutchley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "I would like to reassure residents we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and our inquiries will continue."
