Helen Wreford, chair of the bench at Nottingham Magistrates' Court, which was sitting as a youth court, remanded the boy into youth accommodation to appear before Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday.

Mr Howitt also appeared at the crown court on Monday charged with murder and robbery.

He was remanded into custody until a further hearing on 2 January.

A 16-year-old girl, who cannot be identified due to her age, is expected to appear before magistrates later, charged with robbery.

Three boys - 17, 13 and 12 - and two girls, 15 and 14, who were previously arrested in connection with the attack, have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
