A 76-year-old man whose death prompted a murder investigation has been named by police.

Nottinghamshire Police was called to Malcolm McGarry's home in Northfields Close, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, on 1 December.

Despite attempts to resuscitate him, Mr McGarry was pronounced dead at 02:05 GMT.

His son Peter McGarry, 53, of Alexandra Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, was later charged with his murder, police added.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 9 January.

Det Insp Melanie Crutchley, who is leading the investigation, said: "Specialist family liaison officers are keeping Mr McGarry's family informed about the progress of our investigation, and I'd like to again express our deepest condolences to them at this difficult time."
