Former footballer Jermaine Jenas has received an honorary degree from Nottingham Trent University.

The ex-Nottingham Forest and England star, who has moved into broadcasting since hanging up his boots, has been made a Doctor of Sport.

The 40-year-old was born in the Clifton area of the city and set up a foundation to raise aspirations of young people in the area.

He said receiving the honour had been a "really nice moment".

Jenas also played for Tottenham Hotspur, QPR, Aston Villa and Newcastle United before announcing his retirement in 2016.

Since then he has worked as a TV pundit and presents The One Show on BBC One.

After receiving the degree on Thursday, Jenas said the honour had come out of the blue.

"I was a bit shocked actually, very surprised," he said.

"I think the fact [it was] coming from my home city and for my friends and family to see, it was a really nice moment."
