Beeston: Man, 80, dies after being hit by police van on A52

A man who was fatally struck by a police van in Nottinghamshire has been named.

Trevor Bartlett, 80, was hit by the vehicle on the A52 Derby Road inbound carriageway in Beeston at about 18:30 GMT on Tuesday.

Despite efforts from paramedics, Mr Bartlett died at the scene.

Due to the nature of the incident, Nottinghamshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

An IOPC spokesperson, who confirmed the name of the man on Wednesday, said: "After we were notified by the force, we sent our investigators to the police post-incident process and to the scene to begin gathering information.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident."

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin added: "Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with the man's family following this awful incident.

"As is standard procedure the incident has been referred to the IOPC and I hope people will understand that I am therefore unable to share any further information at this time."

He has also urged any drivers who may have footage or recollection of the collision to contact the force.
