Murder arrest as man dies after Nottingham street assault

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 29-year-old man who died after being assaulted on Christmas Day.

The victim died in hospital having been attacked on Wollaton Road, near Crown Island, at about 20:15 GMT.

Nottinghamshire Police said a man, aged 20, had been arrested on suspicion of murder while two other men, aged 32 and 26, were held on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The force has appealed for any witnesses to come forward,

The victims relatives have been informed and are currently being supported by specially trained officers, the force added.

'Tragic incident'

Roads near Crown Island were closed on Monday evening, but have since reopened, though a police cordon remains at the scene while investigations continue.

Det Ch Insp Matt Croome, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the man's family.

"This is a tragic incident and we are currently working hard to understand what happened.

"To this end we are encouraging people with additional information to come forward."

He urged residents and motorists with CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage from the area to contact the police.
