A suspected burglar said he wanted to make arrangements for his funeral before stealing from staff, police said.

The man was greeted as he entered the office in Sherwood, Nottingham, on Thursday at 10:50 GMT and took a bag from behind the shop counter.

A card in the bag was then used to make purchases in the area, officers said.

A 58-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this and two other similar thefts.

He was also found to be wanted on recall to prison, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Food store targeted

The other thefts took place on 4 January, with a man posing as a customer.

A wallet and a purse belonging to employees at a Nottingham city centre-based bakery were taken when an intruder went into a staff room.

After this, about £1,000 was taken from the till at a food store in St Ann's while a staff member was in the stock room.

The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of three counts of burglary and two counts of fraud by false representation.
