Southwell Minster is celebrating its 140-year anniversary with a special exhibition

A special exhibition is set to be staged to celebrate the 140th anniversary of Southwell Minster.

From February, the cathedral in Nottinghamshire is going to be showing 140 objects over 10 months, which will each reveal part of its story.

The exhibition will explore the story of the minster and how it became the Church of England Cathedral for Nottinghamshire.

Objects for the month will focus on the foundation story.

Visitor and volunteer services officer, Sarah Clemson, said: "The site where the minster stands today was once the site of an impressive Roman Villa and after that an Anglo-Saxon church."

Visitors can follow the object trail with a Hunt The Letter game for children and see realistic carvings of people and animals inside the minster.

The minster was built on the site of a Roman Villa and its archbishop's palace played host to both Cardinal Wolsey and Charles I.
