Former teacher Richard Taylor abused pupils

A former teacher who was jailed for sexually abusing multiple children has been banned from the profession indefinitely.

Richard Taylor was jailed for 13 years in 2022 for two counts of indecent assault and nine of sexual assault.

The Teaching Regulation Agency has now published the findings of its professional conduct panel.

Its report said a prohibition order was necessary to "maintain public confidence in the profession".

Taylor assaulted boys and girls over a 20-year period, police previously said.

The 57-year-old, of Exchange Road in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, was employed as a teacher at Cantrell Primary School, in Nottingham, from September 1999 to November 2020.

He was suspended after his arrest in December 2017.

'Allegations found proved'

The offences related to pupils at the school, and one other school, the report said.

"The panel has made a recommendation to the Secretary of State that Mr Richard Taylor should be the subject of a prohibition order, with no provision for a review period," the report said.

"This means that Mr Richard Taylor is prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children's home in England.

"Furthermore, in view of the seriousness of the allegations found proved against him, I have decided that Mr Taylor shall not be entitled to apply for restoration of his eligibility to teach."

As well as the custodial sentence handed to him at Nottingham Crown Court, Taylor was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
