Infected trees near a busy Nottinghamshire road will be cut down to keep drivers safe.

Works will be carried on the A610 between Swingate and Ikea junction from Monday due to the spread of ash dieback in the area, said Nottinghamshire County Council.

Disruption will affect both sides of the carriageway due to a high risk of the trees falling onto the road.

The authority said the works will last for just under a month.

The works will be carried out between Monday to Friday, from 09:30 until 15:30, under a lane closure to minimise traffic disruption.

It will affect the eastbound for about seven days, with the westbound stretch of the road being impacted for 13 days.

The A610 Kimberley bypass has been monitored by expert forestry teams for several years, the council added.

The deterioration rate of these trees meant urgent intervention was required, with the works being carried out by Via East Midlands on behalf of the local authority.

The council said more than 150 trees will be planted this year.
