Five households were legally blocked from going back into their homes by Mansfield council

Five homes in Mansfield have been closed after they were found to be dangerous to residents.

The Mansfield Healthy Homes Hub was set up in April 2022 to protect people from health risks in their homes.

The service has since removed 52 hazards from homes deemed "life-threatening" and help declutter a further 22 properties.

Emergency protection orders have also been issued on five homes deemed unsafe and too costly to repair.

The legal orders block people from returning to a property with immediate effect.

The residents are then moved by the council to more suitable accommodation.

Mansfield District Council's overview and scrutiny committee is to hear a total of 128 people have been referred to the healthy homes hub, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Residents often have complex needs which could mean they are unable to clean up or dispose of waste, or may engage in hoarding.

The Healthy Homes Hub - which is open to private homeowners, renters, council tenants and people in supported housing - has helped out by assisting with clearing and de-cluttering 22 properties.

The Hub will be funded for a further 12 months to continue improving property conditions and ensuring residents are not harmed.
