A "predatory" man who repeatedly sexually abused a teenage girl nearly 20 years ago has been jailed.

Christopher North was living near Newark in Nottinghamshire when he targeted the victim.

His now-adult victim "found the courage to come forward", police said, and reported North to officers in May 2022.

She told of abuse carried out at different locations, and North was jailed for 11 years at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday.

Nottinghamshire Police said North answered no comment to most of the questions put to him, and maintained his innocence until he finally pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual activity with a child on the day his trial was scheduled to begin.

North, of Bagshaw Street, Pleasley, will spend an additional four years on extended licence. He was also added to the sex offenders register for life.

Police said North was "a calculating and predatory sex offender who has finally been exposed thanks to the determination and bravery of his victim".
