A grocery store that has served a Nottinghamshire town for nearly 50 years is to close.

Bramcote Farm Shop, based on Bembridge Court near the A52 in the county, has sold a wide variety of fresh produce for decades.

But owners Anne and Andrew Woodward say ill health means they will shut for the last time at the end of the month.

Customers took to social media to say the shop was "exceptional" and would be "greatly missed".

As well as fruit and vegetables, the shop has stocked local meats, sauces and even Christmas decorations.

In a statement on social media, Anne and Andrew Woodward said: "As a lot of you know Andrew hasn't been in the best of health for some time.

"So we have taken the decision to close Bramcote Farmshop on the 30th of March.

"We would like to say a massive thank you to all our customers for supporting us over the last 46 years especially through the pandemic."

This prompted dozens of responses from customers and former employees.

Wendy Baker said: "So sorry to hear this sad news, but thankfully you are closing so that you can take time off and recover and enjoy your retirement.

"Warmest wishes for the future, you will be greatly missed."

'Fantastic quality'

Angie Vaites posted: "We wish you [and] yours all the best In the future.

"Thank you all for your hard work and excellent service for the last few years, you have been exceptional."

Rachel Riggs emphasised what an asset to the area the store had been.

She said: "You have provided an amazing service to the community and we have had the benefit of fantastic quality fruit, veg and meat for so many years working so hard. Hope you know how much you are appreciated."

Former shop assistant Hayley Curwood said: "Sorry to hear this, thank you both for the opportunity to work for you throughout my teenage years."
