Emergency services closed off a Nottinghamshire road on Friday due to a "police incident".

Nottinghamshire Police urged motorists to avoid the area around Kelham, near Newark, as a road closure was put in place between the A46 roundabout for Newark and The Fox Inn, Kelham.

Images sent to the BBC showed firefighters, police and paramedics on Kelham bridge.

A police helicopter was also circling the area.

In a statement on the Newark Police Facebook page at 16:10 GMT, a spokesperson said: "Please be advised there is currently a road closure in place on the A617 between Cattle Market roundabout to Kelham Bridge, in Newark due to an ongoing police incident.

"We're asking motorists to please avoid the area.

"Emergency services are currently on scene so, please plan alternate routes to avoid delays."

Newark Police confirmed the A617 was reopened at 17:15 on Friday.
