New images showing how part of Nottingham city centre could be regenerated have been shared by the city council.

The authority said its vision for a new-look Broad Marsh area included more than 1,000 new homes plus commercial and leisure outlets.

It also hopes to use the frame of the former Broadmarsh shopping centre to offer "innovative" new spaces.

The council developed the plans with designers after a public consultation.

It said this had received more than 3,000 responses.

The development is reliant on external investment but the authority said the visual representation of the plans would allow it to work with the newly-formed East Midlands Combined County Authority and commercial organisations to bring them to life.

Nottingham City Council leader Neghat Khan said: "The plan shows we are committed to finding a solution for Broad Marsh and attracting investment to support the transformation.

"We will continue to work with partners to find the investment and developers needed to deliver our vision."

A key part of the plan is incorporating part of the old shopping centre's external frame into new facilities, including a Nottingham Caves visitor attraction and an NHS community diagnostics hub.

The building was handed to the council after previous owner intu collapsed into administration in 2020.

The authority said it would complement work already under way on a new green space for the area.

A new central library, college hub, car park and bus station have also been completed as part of the regeneration.
