Extra parking is to be provided for Oxfordshire County Council staff after complaints from residents in Banbury.

About 300 workers are based at Samuelson House in the town, but when the centre opened in February there were only 55 vehicle spaces available.

Residents complained about spaces outside their homes being used by council staff.

In July, a council worker claimed staff cars had been smeared with egg and dog faeces after being parked off-street.

The council is now working with local firms to provide low-cost parking for staff working at the Tramway Road building.

Council spokesman Owen Morton said: "We have identified a neighbouring site to provide an overflow to the car park at Samuelson House. We are also ensuring that the existing car park is used as flexibly as possible."

In July, the council said it was "only aware of an isolated incident" of residents taking "direct action" against the vehicle of a council worker.
