Oxford Ice Rink is to benefit from a £700,000 revamp which will see the attraction close for three weeks.

A new refrigeration unit is to be installed and the changing and showering facilities will be upgraded.

The works will also see a new boiler fitted, new rubber matting and improved barriers.

The programme will start from 15 November with the rink expected to re-open in December ahead of the busy Christmas period.

Peter Ennals, Oxford Ice Rink general manager, said: "The refrigeration unit is at the end of its life and the replacement unit will be much more environmentally friendly and efficient.

"While the rink is closed we will be making other improvements which couldn't be done with the rink open.

"It's a shame to have to close the rink for such a long period of time, but I am sure that local skaters will realise the benefits of completing this work."
