People in Oxford have been given more time to comment on controversial plans to sell off part of a car park to build student accommodation.

Developer Watkin Jones Group has put forward three options including a 13-storey tower block for St Clement's car park near Magdalen College.

But traders in the city believe shoppers will be put off by a lack of spaces and profits will suffer.

A consultation on the proposals has been extended until 2 December.

Selling the land off could raise £3.57m for Oxford City Council.

The authority said it was confident the reduced number of spaces would be "sufficient to support future need".
