Moves to reactivate Oxfordshire's speed cameras after they were switched off could come into force in April.

A report to Windsor and Maidenhead Council shows Thames Valley Police will pay for the cameras' running costs.

It said the police force would be able to recover its costs from "the income of training courses".

All of the county's 72 fixed and 89 mobile camera sites were switched off on 1 August after £600,000 was axed from the road safety budget.

Thames Valley Police confirmed it had been negotiating a proposal at a national level but said it could not go into any more details at present.

The council report states the plans "will be in place by 1st April 2011."

Supt Rob Povey, head of roads policing, said the proposals were "still at an early stage".

He added: "Until the final arrangements have been agreed by all the involved parties, which will take some time, we can not answer any specific questions regarding funding."
