Appeal against Oxford Brookes University development is dropped

Permission for the new development in Headington was granted in June last year

A man who was trying to stop a university from redeveloping its campus has dropped his appeal.

Martin Young, 67, had been granted permission to challenge plans for Oxford Brookes University's Headington campus at the Court of Appeal.

His request to be protected from potential costs was refused on Thursday and the council offered to waive his costs if he dropped his appeal.

The plans include a colonnade building, public piazza and retail units.

Mr Young's objections had been over noise and disturbance from the development.

Oxford City Council granted planning permission to the university in last June and Mr Young's original High Court challenge against it failed.
