Oxfordshire County Council's £93m budget savings move closer

Plans to save £93m from Oxfordshire County Council's budget over the next four years have moved a step closer.

The council's cabinet approved the spending plans until 2017/18 without change at a meeting on Tuesday.

A full council meeting next month will debate the savings in full before they are finalised.

The savings are made up of an existing £31m already earmarked for the next two years with an additional £62m proposed until 2017/18.

'Evolving picture'

Among the measures proposed to raise additional revenue are a council tax precept rise of 1.99% over the next two years.

Council leader Ian Hudspeth said: "This will be a fluctuating and evolving picture.

"A recent settlement from central government gave us a lot of information we needed to set a budget, but it is inevitable there will be yet more change between now and February.

"Hopefully it will work in our favour."

Full council will meet to debate the plans at its annual budget meeting on 18 February.
