Councils have described the plans for Woodstock as a "major cross-border proposal"

Plans for a major housing development that campaigners say will double the size of a historical Oxfordshire town have been amended.

Pye Homes' proposals for 1,500 homes in Woodstock have been reduced to 1,200 following a consultation.

The development known as Woodstock East will occupy land south of Shipton Road.

In a joint letter to residents, Cherwell District Council and West Oxfordshire District Council described it as a "major cross-border proposal".

The plans include a care village of 120 units (reduced from 150), a primary school, and a football facility.

It has increased the employment space at the development from 7,500 sq m to 13,800.

Residents have been notified of the changes and are invited to comment on the planning application online, external.

Campaigners have previously criticised the plans, which they say would double the size of the town.

Woodstock has a population of about 3,100 and is the location of Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill.
