A village church has raised £123,000 to restore its roof after receiving a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

All Saints Church in Wytham, near Oxford, raised almost half of the money it needed through four years of fundraising.

The congregation is celebrating after it was awarded a further £63,100 from the lottery fund.

Church warden David Humphrey told BBC Radio Oxford it was a relief the roof will finally be repaired.

He said: "The batons that hold the tiles on are rotting, there's a steady supply of broken tiles that come off the roof.

"It really needs to be done now before it gets too close to total failure. Before we have a bad winter storm and find we haven't got one."

He added that the church had hosted fundraising events, as well as receiving help from people who live in the village and donating money to sponsor new tiles.
