A4260 road death: Victim 'stopped to help' overturned car

A man who died after a road accident had stopped to check on an overturned car when he was struck by a reversing tipper van, police said.

A 55-year-old man from Bicester has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The victim, 59, from Banbury, was walking towards a vehicle that had gone off the A4260 in Middle Aston, Oxfordshire, on Wednesday morning.

He was then struck by a reversing Ford Transit Tipper van around 08:00 GMT.

He later died from his injuries in hospital.

The driver of the overturned car, a black Fiat Punto, had minor injuries.

The road, near Bicester, was closed for several hours while officers carried out investigations.

PC Julia Stroud, from Thames Valley Police, said: "I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or the vehicles involved prior to the collision."
