Remains found after Oxford explosion identified

Human remains found after a building collapsed in an explosion in Oxford have been identified as belonging to a man missing since the blast.

Police confirmed Guido Schuette, 48, died in the blast which caused a three-storey block of flats to fall down.

He was missing and believed dead, but previous tests on remains found at the site had proved inconclusive.

Thames Valley Police said it was still investigating the cause of the explosion at Osney Mead on 14 February.

Senior investigating officer Det Insp Jim Holmes, said: "Our work is now being carried out on behalf of the coroner, who will determine the circumstances surrounding this incident."

Human remains were found by emergency services four days after the explosion.

A post-mortem examination carried out a day later proved inconclusive, prompting further tests.

Thames Valley Police said Mr Schuette's family had been informed were being supported by the force.

A2Dominion, which operates the flat complex where the blast happened, said 10 residents were still out of their homes.

It said it was trying to find alternative permanent accommodation for them.
