Oxford student's custody death: Plea for transparency

A student group has called for a "transparent and open" investigation into the death in police custody of a law undergraduate.
Thames Valley Police said Nuno Cardoso, 25, suffered a "medical episode" in a police vehicle after he was arrested on suspicion of assault on 24 November.
Mr Cardoso, a law student at Ruskin College, Oxford, died in hospital.
A group named Ruskin Students Stand Up to Racism has encouraged Thames Valley Police to be as "open as possible".
The group said its members "do not imply any wrongdoing has occurred" but added it was important to break down any mistrust that "may unwittingly occur".
It said: "Thames Valley Police need to be seen to be acting fairly, honestly and with clarity in concluding their investigations."

Ruskin College principal Paul Di Felice said Mr Cardoso was a "valued student" and "highly regarded by his fellow law students".
A crowdfunding page has been set up to raise money to help his family.
It describes the student as "a high spirited, caring, and good natured young man" who wished to become a lawyer.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has launched an investigation into Mr Cardoso's death.
Thames Valley Police said it could not comment further while the investigation is ongoing.
